Competitors
Your Visibility Score means little in isolation. This screen puts you and your active competitors on the same evidence-qualified benchmark, using the same platform-complete latest measurements and a neutral prompt scope by default.
What this screen shows
The Competitors screen (/[org]/projects/[project]/visibility/competitors) opens with a header line showing how many competitors are active and how many platform-complete prompt snapshots feed the benchmark, plus the exact dates of those measurements. Nothing here is a separate measurement — it’s a carefully scoped slice of the same answers you see elsewhere in Monitor, just re-sliced to compare brands instead of prompts.
Benchmark scope
The safe default is Neutral discovery. It includes only active prompts categorized as unbranded that name neither your brand nor any tracked competitor. Brand and competitor aliases count too, and deactivated competitors remain in the exclusion vocabulary: turning a competitor off cannot quietly turn a named question into a neutral market benchmark.
Name matching is phrase- and boundary-aware, including Unicode names and punctuation. For example, a competitor called “Notion” does not exclude a prompt containing the unrelated word “notional.”
Use the All prompts scope when you deliberately want branded and named-comparison questions included. The URL records the choice as ?scope=neutral or ?scope=all, and the selected scope is applied consistently to the benchmark table, Share of Voice, prompt rows and head-to-head panel.
Latest trusted evidence, with coverage and dates
For each prompt and platform, the benchmark uses the latest completed or partially completed real tracking measurement. Failed, unfinished, simulated and unknown-provenance runs are excluded. A latest “no answer” result is kept as the latest result, so an older mention cannot leak forward after a platform stops returning an answer. A prompt enters the comparison metrics only when every benchmark platform has one of these trusted measurements; partial-platform rows remain visible in Head-to-head but cannot tilt the ranking.
The scope card reports measured and answered counts separately for every platform, together with the oldest and newest measurement dates. “Measured” includes a legitimate no-answer result; “answered” means the platform returned an AI answer.
The benchmark table
The top of the page is a table with one row per brand — your own, highlighted in emerald with a You badge, plus every currently active tracked competitor — and one column per metric:
| Column | What it is |
|---|---|
| Visibility | The brand’s overall Visibility Score (0–100). |
| Share of voice | Its slice of total mention volume — see below. |
| Mention rate | Percent of answers where it’s named at all. |
| Citation rate | Percent of answers where one of its pages is linked. |
| Position score | How early it tends to be named, when it is. |
| Sentiment | 0–100 tone index; 50 is neutral. |
| Mentions | Raw count of mention events, for scale. |
Once at least three independent scoped prompts have trusted measurements on every platform, every column header is clickable and re-sorts the table by that metric, highest first — the default sort is Visibility. Before that minimum is reached, the values are visibly marked provisional and stay in a neutral order; OptimizeCamp does not assign a ranking from one or two questions.
Share of voice, explained here
Share of voice is your brand’s mentions as a percentage of all mentions across you and every active tracked competitor combined, recomputed only from the selected prompt scope and its platform-complete latest snapshots. Mentions from a prompt missing any platform measurement, and mentions by inactive or untracked entities, do not dilute this benchmark. The broader project number is shown on the dashboard’s Share of Voice card, here placed directly alongside every other metric so you can see whether a strong Visibility Score is backed by real competitive share or just a healthy score in a market you barely show up in. More on Share of Voice is in Mentions, citations & share of voice.
Head-to-head
Below the benchmark table, the Head-to-head panel compares you against one competitor at a time, prompt by prompt, using the same scoped latest answer on each platform. Pick a rival from the chip row. After three prompts have measurements on every platform, the panel defaults to the competitor with the strongest scoped Visibility Score. Before the minimum, it uses a neutral alphabetical default rather than implying that an early leader exists.
Once the evidence minimum is met, four running totals sit above the table: You lead N, [Competitor] leads N, Tied N, and Both absent N — a prompt-level scoreboard for the matchup. Only platform-complete prompts enter those totals. Below three independently measured complete prompts, the same raw presence chips remain visible, but the totals and per-prompt winner verdicts are withheld as “more evidence needed.”
Each row is one prompt, with a “You” and a competitor column per platform, each holding a presence chip:
- not measured — no trusted terminal measurement exists yet for this prompt/platform.
- no answer — a trusted measurement exists, but the platform returned no AI answer.
- absent — the platform answered, this brand wasn’t in it.
- #2 — mentioned, at this ordinal position (1 = named first).
- #1 · cited — mentioned first and cited — the strongest possible cell.
Once the evidence minimum is met, the Assessment column on the right sums the outcome across both platforms: whoever is mentioned and cited on more platforms for that prompt wins the row, with ties broken by who was named earlier when both are mentioned. A row missing any platform is labeled “partial platform coverage” and remains outside the totals.
Untracked brands in your answers
The last panel is one of the more quietly useful things on this screen: OptimizeCamp scans the full text of every captured answer for capitalized brand-shaped names that keep showing up in trusted, terminal tracking answers but aren’t in your tracked competitor list yet. A name has to appear in at least two separate answers to surface here; common words and your own brand are filtered out automatically, an AI check confirms each name is a plausible competitor (not a stray capitalized phrase, and not an unrelated brand the answers merely mention), and the list is capped at the ten most frequent confirmed names.
Each entry shows the name and “Appeared in N of M answers” — real evidence, not a guess — with a “Track as competitor” button next to it. A quieter Dismiss action handles the opposite call: a name that slipped through but isn’t a competitor disappears for good, and can never fire a new-competitor alert either.
Track as competitor
One click turns an untracked name into a real tracked competitor. The same action is available from a new-competitor alert, and does three things:
Creates the competitor
Backfills its history
Refreshes the numbers
If it's already tracked
If a name matches a competitor you’re already tracking (active), tracking it again simply reuses that existing row — nothing is duplicated.
Adding a competitor by name
You don’t have to wait for a rival to surface on its own. Below the untracked list, a “Missing one?” box lets you type a competitor’s name and Track by name directly — useful for a known competitor that hasn’t appeared in your answers yet, or one you want measured from day one. It joins your tracked competitors like any other and counts against your plan’s per-project competitor limit.
Note
A competitor added by hand can start without a known domain — its mentions are still tracked, but it won’t earn citation credit until you add its domain. See tracked competitors.
Key takeaways
- Neutral discovery is the default benchmark: active unbranded prompts that name neither you nor any tracked competitor; All prompts is an explicit opt-in scope.
- Every comparison metric uses platform-complete latest trusted terminal snapshots; a no-answer measurement clears stale prior presence and counts as zero presence.
- Rankings and head-to-head verdicts require trusted measurements on every platform for at least three independent scoped prompts; partial rows remain visible but stay outside ranked totals.
- Share of Voice is recomputed from the platform-complete comparison cohort for your brand and active competitors only; Head-to-head also shows partial rows, clearly labeled and excluded from totals.
- Untracked brands are surfaced automatically from your own answer text — names appearing in ≥2 answers, common words and existing brands excluded, each confirmed as a real brand by an AI check.
- Tracking an untracked brand backfills its mention history from every answer already captured, so its numbers aren't starting from zero.
