Brand voice

A generated article that's accurate and well-structured can still read wrong for your brand — too formal, too casual, missing a phrase your team always uses. Brand voice is where you tell OptimizeCamp what 'sounds like you' means — once, per project.

The problem it solves

Generated drafts and the click-to-accept rewrite fixes in the audit & editor both involve an AI writing sentences that end up under your name. Getting the facts right and the structure sound isn’t the whole job — the words also need to sound like something your brand would actually say. Brand voice carries your tone, your vocabulary, and your house rules into every piece of AI-written text, so a reader can’t tell which paragraphs a human wrote and which ones the generator did.

The voice profile

The profile lives at Settings → Brand voice, per project, and covers:

  • Tone sliders — formal↔casual and concise↔thorough. The middle means “no preference”; push a slider toward an end and every drafting prompt carries that instruction.
  • Never say / prefer saying — up to 20 banned phrases that must not appear (“game-changer”), and up to 20 preferred ones worked in where natural (a tagline, a product name spelled a specific way).
  • Point of view — first person plural (“we”), first person singular, second person (“you”), or third person, kept consistent across every draft.
  • Reading level — plain-spoken, standard, or technical.
  • An AI-disclosure footer — when toggled on, every generated article ends with a short paragraph disclosing that AI assisted in drafting it.

Everything is optional — an untouched profile adds no guidance at all, and each control only speaks up once you set it.

Learn from samples

Describing a voice in sliders is hard; pointing at pages that already have it is easy. That’s what learn from samples does:

Pick 3–5 on-brand pages

The picker lists your content inventory’s meatiest pages. Choose the ones that already sound the way you want everything to sound.

A style profile is extracted

The analysis is deterministic — average sentence length, reading grade, dominant point of view, and recurring phrases are measured directly from the text. With an AI key configured, a short free-text style note is added on top.

Review it in place

The extracted profile is shown back on the settings card — “sentences average ~14 words · reads at roughly grade 9 · second person” — and applies together with the sliders and phrase lists. Re-extract any time your best pages change.

Where the voice reaches

The two places AI writes prose under your name

Generated drafts. Every section-writing prompt in the generation pipeline carries the voice block — tone, point of view, reading level, phrase rules, and the sample-derived style profile — steering word choice and rhythm without touching the facts or the outline. The disclosure footer, when enabled, is appended deterministically, so it works even in keyless mode.

Rewrite fixes. The audit’s inline suggested rewrites and its ready-to-insert gap passages get the same voice block, so an accepted fix reads like the rest of the page instead of like a different writer stepping in for one sentence.

Per-article overrides

Each brief still has its editable Voice notes field — but it no longer starts empty:

Voice notes (seeded)

When a brief is created, its voice notes are pre-filled from the project profile, so the reviewer sees exactly what guidance generation will receive. Leave them as-is and the profile applies; edit them and your article-specific notes ride along with the profile — and win where they conflict.

Key takeaways

  • Brand voice is a per-project profile at Settings → Brand voice: tone sliders, banned/preferred phrases, point of view, reading level, learn-from-samples, and an AI-disclosure footer toggle.
  • Learn-from-samples extracts a measurable style profile (sentence length, reading grade, POV, recurring phrases) from 3–5 pages you pick — deterministically, so it works without an AI key.
  • The same voice block reaches both generated drafts and the audit's rewrite fixes, so all AI-written prose sounds like one writer: yours.
  • Brief voice notes are seeded from the profile and stay editable — per-article notes ride along and win on conflict.
