Plans, quotas & credits

OptimizeCamp meters usage two ways: some things are capped (a maximum count your plan allows), some are credited (a per-use allowance that draws down and refills monthly). Knowing which is which explains why prompts sit under a fixed ceiling while an audit or a generated article spends a number you can watch shrink.

Where you manage this

Everything on this page is real and visible in the app: Settings has a Plan & credits panel showing your current plan, live credit balances, cap usage, and buttons to switch plans. This page explains what those numbers mean and how the gating behaves.

The plan tiers

There’s no free tier or free trial. You subscribe to one of three plans, billed up front through Freemius. The tiers gate by volume, not by crippling features — with two exceptions: Slack alert delivery starts on Pro, and reporting steps up by tier (CSV everywhere, PDF from Pro, white-label and client share links on Agency). Everything else is on every plan.

The tracked-prompt limit is pooled across every project in your workspace, not per project. Every plan keeps your data forever — the history window controls how far back you can browse, not what’s stored. You move between tiers on the Plan & credits screen.

Your subscription

Every workspace runs on an active subscription: you pick Starter, Pro, or Agency and are billed up front through Freemius. Each billing period re-grants your plan’s credit buckets — and credits don’t roll over, so a period’s leftover balance expires with it.

What “read-only” means if your subscription lapses

If your subscription lapses or is cancelled, the workspace goes read-only: you can still see everything — every run, score, and page — but any action that would spend a credit or a cap is blocked until an active plan is restored. Nothing is deleted. Subscribing again at any point restores full access instantly, exactly where you left off.

Caps vs. credits

It helps to separate what’s capped from what’s credited — they behave differently.

Caps

Projects, tracked prompts, competitors and WordPress connections are hard count caps — your plan sets a maximum, full stop. Your scheduled tracking runs aren’t metered per run either; they simply happen on your plan’s cadence — set per platform: on Pro and Agency, Google AI runs daily and ChatGPT three times a week; on Starter both run weekly — for every active prompt. No credit is spent when a scheduled run executes.

Credits

Audits, generated articles, and on-demand tracking runs are metered per use — each draws one credit from its bucket, and the bucket is re-granted at the start of each billing period. Alongside them, AI outreach drafts are a fourth per-period allowance (counted, not held). None of these roll over.

The rule to remember

Scheduled tracking runs are governed by prompt caps and cadence, not credits. Audits, article generations, and on-demand runs are credited, and refund automatically if they fail partway through.

Audit credits

Every audit you run on a page in the audit & editor spends one audit credit. The free, always-on Priority Score and QuickScore never cost anything — only the deeper audit engines do. If an audit crashes or stalls partway through, the credit is refunded automatically; you’re never charged for a report you didn’t get. Running out returns a clear “You’re out of audit credits” block with an upgrade path.

The editor won’t start a second audit on a page while one is already running (it tells you an audit is already in progress rather than spending a second credit), so a credit is only ever committed once a fresh audit actually begins.

Article credits

Generating a full draft from a brief spends one article credit — and that single credit covers the whole pipeline: research, section drafting, the fact-check pass, and the pre-audit the draft lands on in the editor. It’s not billed as separate steps, and a failed generation refunds the credit.

Creating a brief is free and unlimited; the credit is spent only when you move from brief to a generated draft. Once a draft exists, regenerating an individual section is free; regenerating the whole article spends a new credit.

On-demand runs

Your scheduled tracking runs are free and automatic. The Run tracking now button on the Visibility dashboard is the exception — each manual whole-project run spends on-demand run credits (Starter 2, Pro 10, Agency 40 per month): one credit covers up to 50 prompts, so a project tracking 120 prompts spends 3 credits per click. Scheduled runs and the onboarding baseline run never draw from this bucket. Without enough credits for your project’s size, the button is blocked with “Not enough on-demand run credits” until the next period or an upgrade. If a run fails outright, the full held amount is refunded.

AI outreach drafts

Earned-media playbooks can generate outreach copy for you. Drafting with a live model is metered by a monthly AI-draft allowance (Starter 5, Pro 20, Agency 50) — only successful AI drafts count. The keyless template draft, and any failed AI call, are free and count nothing. At the cap the playbook drawer tells you “You’ve used all {n} AI drafts included this month” and points you to the next billing period or an upgrade. Unlike audit/article/run credits, this is a simple counted allowance, not a hold — the rest of a playbook (evidence, steps, targets, verification) is always free.

How the credit mechanics work

Every held credit follows the same pattern, so a crash or a queue retry can never silently double-charge you or leave you charged for nothing:

Hold, then settle or refund

When a credited action starts, it places a hold — the credit is set aside immediately, so you can’t start two operations that together spend more than you have (an overdraft is impossible by construction). Finish successfully and the hold stands as the spend; fail or get interrupted and it’s refunded automatically. No support request — it happens as part of the operation.

Credits don't roll over

At each billing period boundary, any leftover balance is zeroed and the new period’s allowance is granted — credits never accumulate. Switching plans does the same immediately: the moment you change tier, leftover credits are expired and the new plan’s monthly allotment is granted fresh.

Managing your plan in Settings

The Plan & credits panel in Settings is where all of this is visible and changeable:

  • Your current plan and price.
  • Live credit balances for the three credit buckets (audits, articles, on-demand runs), shown as balance / monthly allotment — the AI-draft allowance is tracked separately.
  • Cap usage rows — Projects, Tracked prompts (all projects), Competitors (this project) — as used / cap, turning amber when you’re at the limit.
  • Plan buttons for Starter, Pro and Agency (your current plan shown with a ✓). Changing plans goes through secure checkout — upgrades are prorated, and your credits reset to the new plan’s monthly allotment once the change is confirmed.

Note

The screen shows current balances, not a line-by-line ledger of past spends. Payment and checkout are handled by Freemius, our merchant of record.

What happens when you hit a limit

Running out of a quota never breaks the app or loses your work — it shows up as a clearly blocked action with a path to unblock it. Every gate is a hard stop plus an upgrade prompt, not a silent degradation:

  • Prompt cap: adding prompts that would exceed your pooled limit is refused, telling you how many slots are left.
  • Competitor / project caps: adding past the limit is refused with an upgrade prompt.
  • Audit / article credits at zero: the queue and content gaps still show — ranked and visible — but the audit or Generate action is blocked until credits refresh or you upgrade.
  • On-demand runs at zero: scheduled runs keep going; only the manual Run tracking now is blocked.
  • AI drafts at cap: the template draft still works; AI-drafted copy waits for the next period.

The history window

Your plan’s history window — 6 months on Starter, 18 on Pro, unlimited on Agency — controls how far back trend charts reach. Data older than the window renders locked, with a “🔒 Earlier history is locked on your plan — see your full timeline →” chip on the Visibility dashboard. This gates access, not storage — nothing is deleted for being on a smaller plan, and upgrading reveals the full timeline instantly.

Key takeaways

  • Three tiers — Starter, Pro, Agency — set volume caps (projects, pooled prompts, competitors, cadence, WordPress, history); the two feature gates are Slack alerts (Pro+) and reporting (PDF on Pro+, white-label + share links on Agency).
  • Every workspace runs on a subscription billed up front through Freemius; if it lapses or is cancelled the workspace goes read-only — nothing is deleted, and subscribing again restores full access instantly.
  • Audit and article credits are spent one per use; on-demand runs spend one credit per 50 prompts in the project. All refund on failure, are re-granted monthly, and don't roll over — switching plans resets them immediately.
  • AI outreach drafts are a separate monthly allowance (5 / 20 / 50); keyless template drafts are always free.
  • The Plan & credits screen in Settings shows live balances and cap usage, and switches plans instantly.
  • Hitting any limit hard-blocks that one action with an upgrade path; history beyond your window is locked, not lost.
